This project is really well done. I like the graphics you used and its formatted in a really effective way. I really like how you contrasted legislation to bibilical passages / included quotes of religious justification in court cases and legislation — that was really effective in getting your point across!
Your presentation of this project really struck me in class. I loved how you made an infographic because I think it made your argument and evidence very accessible. I think this is a great project especially considering the current uncertainty of the future of Roe v. Wade. I think your project could be a really great teaching tool and easily demonstrates how the U.S. does not have a history of separating of church & state like it claims it does.
Omg this pamphlet was so professionally put together! I could definitely sense the passion you have put into this project. With the current events happening across the country in relation to abortion rights, this theme is crucial to understanding how background has influenced where we are today. Amazingly done!
You did an amazing job with the project! And I love the themes you explored. I really appreciated how you knit together issues of the LGBTQ+ community, abortion rights, gender issues, and race issues. I think when we start seeing systems of oppression as interwoven we can finally make change and I love how you were able to present that.
As a political science major, this pamphlet was such an amazing read. The formation of the “Moral Majority” around Ronald Reagan was the continuation of the efforts of white Christians to keep their legislative and social power, which you highlighted really well. I think that these topics, which create a lot of passion one way or the other for most people, are perfect examples of the rising polarity and the rise of populism, especially for the Christian right. Your pamphlet, though, is a wonderful example of how their efforts are very harmful to many minority groups, and is a perfect case for the need for minority protections, especially since US demographics are constantly changing.
I absolutely loved your project and the entire presentation! There was so much about this topic that I am embarrassed to say I did not know, and as a woman this is a very prevalent topic in today’s world. This pamphlet really highlights the misconstrued image of the United States judicial system and the errors in its separation of church and state. The connections between LGBTQ, gender, and race issues all tied together make the perfect criticism of the legal system within the U.S.
Ars, you did a fantastic job on this pamphlet. Every fact and statistic holds so much power, and you did an amazing job designing it as well. Very insightful and is a perfect example of how, even when we think that we’ve gotten rid of certain views and finished fighting for certain rights, that we need to keep fighting to preserve them because they can be taken away just as easily
I loved the pamphlet format! It is a super effective way of engaging the audience with images, quotes, and statistics. It is so frustrating to hear the same religious-based arguments people make to oppose abortion, when they are just one interpretation of these texts. I think this project ties in really well to the queer, feminist, and womanist theologies out there.
okay but listening to your project gave me so much energy not even because you spoke with passion but because you were stating the facts and drawing connections left and right. I love how you look at how the white heteronormative patriarchy continues to affect LGBTQ policy within the US and how religion is used to justify these homophonic white men’s actions. It’s ridiculous the power they have. Looking at it through a political lense is really important because at the end of the day policies are what affect people on a day to day basis, wether they realize it or not. Really nice work!
This is such a well done pamphlet that clearly explains the history and context of these issues. I really liked your discussion of anti-miscegenation laws- as a mixed race person, I feel like people tend to forget that the fight for mixed race marriage was as religiously driven as modern fights for things like gay marriage and also didn’t happen that long ago! This would be such a good introductory pamphlet for exposing people to the issues, and for getting more in-depth knowledge
I loved the brochure format and the fact that you provided us each with a handout to keep. I think it was concise, informative, and grabbed the reader’s attention. The graphics were also phenomenal. It was very well put together and I appreciated the research that went into it and the passion you portrayed when presenting this in class. I think it was definitely something that you are very passionate about and it definitely showed in your commitment to perfecting this project. Loved it!
This pamphlet was so powerful. Not only was it very well put together- the graphics and statistics being completely on point- it was also very evident that you felt a genuine and personal connection with the topic and law itself. I really liked the flow chart on page 4! It proves the point so well and the logic flows so smoothly. And of course, love the iconic reference to RBG in the title.
Your project was so interesting and well put. I loved the pamphlet and the fact that it was partially interactive in that way. I think that it made the project even more powerful and come more to life. I also loved how you presented and spoke about this. You have a great voice for presentations like this — very engaging and powerful.
This presentation kept me on my toes! Not only was your energy and engagement on the topic captivating, but the points that you highlighted were also enlightening. I applaud you for presenting something that we’re currently facing as a country. I wish we had more time to discuss after you presented because you were awesome and you definitely mentioned so many thought-provoking topics that we all wanted to discuss as a class. Amazing job! I loved it! One of my favs!
It is absolutely amazing how you were able to show so much but yet connect it to a common source in a very well-written and thorough pamphlet. I can see how passionate you were about the topics discussed and enjoyed your presentation of the pamphlet. Great job!
I love this project. It very aesthetically spreads light on an incredibly important topic and also uses strong sources to explain how discriminatory or bigoted laws are related back to religion. This perspective is incredibly important in order to address lawful bigotry and the use of a pamphlet is very fitting.
