  1. I was really impressed by your animations in this project! I thought it was helpful that you included definitions to concepts and terms throughout the project and that gave me a clear understanding of your message. I also really liked that a personal experience inspired this project for you!

  2. This was so incredible, and I could feel how powerful the presentation and video was because you are so passionate about it. Thank you for showing is that fetishisation is problematic and in fact, there is a fine line between respect and acceptance of a tradition, and a total appropriation of it.

  3. I really liked that you brought up the idea of cultural appropriation as there is definitely a point when actual practice can turn into something else. This project totally reminded me of that one video we watched in class about the self proclaimed “sex guru” who was basically just a white guy having sex with a bunch of people. Your animations were really cool!

  4. Really cool project! I love the tool you used because I think it makes your project very digestible and easy to follow. I think that it’s great that you focused on a topic in which you felt challenged your beliefs because I think that’s what this class is all about.

  5. This project was so engaging! It really reminded me of those BrainPOP videos with Ted and Moby I used to watch when I was younger. I really appreciated that you took the time to highlight the misinformed views of Western culture surrounding Hindu culture, and the depth of Western influence on Hindu teachings, while taking at least as much time to explain the original meanings and teachings.

  6. I thought it was really interesting how you mentioned during your presentation that this project gave you insight on your own biases concerning the topic. The topic itself is not talked about enough, and I loved how informing it was from a historical perspective as well as a social one.

  7. Great project!! Jacob was so right with the BrainPOP videos thanks for the throwback haha! But great information and I really liked your topic as a whole I’ve seen similar things at other trendy stores and it really is exhausting so I’m glad you actually gave an academic review of it.

  8. I’m so glad that someone addressed this topic for their final project. I’ve noticed the weird western obsession with the Kama Sutra and it has never sat right with me. People need to understand where these texts come from and their original purpose rather than just appropriating it for their own needs.

  9. I loved hearing about the inspiration for your project- Spencer’s certainly has a lot of weird things, but the way people just blatantly throw around the Kama Sutra really does get excessive. You did such a good comprehensive job with your presentation, and I liked the animation, it was really engaging!

  10. Ariel, this was so good. The project was phenomenal and beautiful and so well researched and informative. You obviously put a lot of work into this and perfected every aspect. I also loved how you admitted to your own cognitive biases and sought to do your best to not fall into the trap of letting them reflect themselves in your project. You went above and beyond in the thoroughness of this project all the way from the animations to the research. Well done! This is definitely an important topic that needs to be addressed, so, I appreciate your willingness to step out and do just that even if it’s not a topic that personally affects you. Fetishization of other cultures is far too accepted and has long needed to be called out as you have done so well.

  11. I loved your choice of topic honestly. Hindu culture has been fetishized so much to an alarming extent and I think you really did a great job of highlighting that and walking the viewer through all the important concepts related to it so even a person uninformed on Hindu philosophy on sexuality could easily follow. Also, the video was very well made, I’m sure it took a great amount of time and the final product really reflected that.

  12. I thought that your project was really interesting. I learned a lot from your project and loved the medium that you used for it. The little characters were so cute. 🙂

  13. The Kama Sutra and Tantra topics were some of my favorite topics to learn about in class; we didn’t spend much time on them so I’m really happy that you did your presentation on these topics. I learned a lot from your animated video, especially because the cartoons made it so engaging. Great job unleashing your creativity!

  14. I love how different of a path you took with the faith tradition and project medium and it came out fantastic! It was fantastic how head-on you approached not only the issue of fetishization in the Hindu faith tradition and the Kamasutra, but also the biases you may have held on the issue. Education and information is the best way we can learn about our own biases and that is why I think your project is so special!

  15. I really appreciate the obvious amount of time you put into the animation and the video. I personally love animation to teach on more complicated topics. Additionally, I love the amount of detail you go into to make sure that anyone watching the video can understand regardless of their background. It was a very inclusive way to present the information, which was also very thorough.
